So it was on Monday , 3rd April, 2023, as another milestone was recorded in the annals of the history of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, (FUNAAB), as the 6th Vice – Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Felix Salako handed over the leadership of the University to the 7th Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olusola Kehinde. Indeed, it was an exit of honour, brilliance, encomiums, achievements harvesting, recognition, applause and appreciation human milk of love, kindness and understanding of fellow human beings for who they are for the progress of the academic community as Prof. Salako ended his five year tenure which started in 2017. The ceremony climaxed the attraction of all the four major divisions of Egbaland, led by the Paramount ruler, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, academics, cream le da cream as well as the former leadership of FUNAAB & current Pro- Chancellor, current and former Principal Officers of the University. For Prof. Salako in his farewell address reeled out what he did in two parts with part one containing 82 pages and the second part occupying 249 pages. It was an outstanding performance of achievements transversing academic infrastructures, welfare, promotion of both academic and non-academic staff, Sports, Health and business ventures to grow the internally generated revenue of the University. The list of the items of achievements is endless. One thing that stood him as a former VC, Prof. Olaiya Balogun said was his allowing his success to speak for him as he worked silently during his tenure. The new helmsman, Prof. Olusola Kehinde in his acceptance speech vowed to do everything possible to make the University a 21st Century one. Most importantly, taking it as among the best 5 rated in Nigeria and occupying the first 100 in Africa. Vowing not to let the confidence reposed in him to be jeopardized and at the same time upscaling the standard and vision of the founding fathers of the University. A befitting luncheon ended the day where the academic community members had the forum to recount the values and contributions of Prof. Salako to FUNAAB in a congenial and convivial atmosphere. It was a day of joy and recounting with nostalgia what has become FUNAAB thus far. It was a beautiful exchange of baton worth attending and mentioning.
