NIGERIA JOINS 53 AFRICA NATIONS TO ISSUE COMMEMORATIVE POSTAGE STAMPS

Nigerian Postal Service NIPOST joins 53 other African countries to issue a commemorative Postage Stamps to commission Pan African Postal Union Tower, housing the organisation headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania. Unveiling the stamps at NIPOST corporate headquarters in Abuja.

Postmaster General of the Federation/ CEO, NIPOST, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Sunday Adepoju stated during the unveiling and launching that the commemorative stamps serve as expression of African shared identity, cultural heritage and collective hopes and aspirations, he said it is a reminder of the valuable contribution of PAPU to our lives of people that make up this great continent.

The 17 Storey headquarters for Pan African continental body is a joint project between the United Republic of Tanzania, represented by Tanzanian Communication Regulatory Authority and PAPU.

The stamps with a face value of N250+5 surcharge value that will be put together after 6months to be transmitted to the Continental body as part of the contribution in launching the edifice.

Member countries were enjoined to incorporate into the design of the stamp, an iconic emblem or a natural national artefact.

The Nigerian version of the stamps depict the historic Zuma Rock, a Tourist Site, situated in Nigeria State, in the North Central Region of nigeria.

The PMG thanked the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose renewed hope agenda has positioned NIPOST to play effective role in the digital economic development of the nation. The PMG was represented by Dr. Thomas Ali Gaga, Director, Planning & Development.
