Delegates at the just concluded Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW) 2025, held in Uyo, have rejoiced with Mr. Niyi Oduwole and Mrs Taiwo Akintomide, the newly inaugurated Fellows of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), shortly after the guided tour to Ibeno Beach.
Welcoming the delegates, the Chapter’s Chairman, Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, congratulated the duo for attaining the status of Fellow, after measuring up to the stipulated requirements. Mrs Boye said becoming a Fellow was no mean feat as it is the climax in the Institute’s professional progression, under the Registrar’s purview to decide the eligibility of deserving members after due screened, thus expressing happiness that two of the Chapter’s members met all the requirements and thus inducted.She equally applauded members of the Chapter, who actively participated in the NIPR Diamond Anniversary celebration last year, which she noted, earned the Chapter a Merit Award as the Best in Diamond Anniversary Engagement, by the President and Chairman of Council, Dr. Ike Neliaku.
Having praised them for conducting themselves well throughout NPRW, she charged them to imbibe best practices in the discharge of their duties to the Institute and in any other engagements for impactful professional practice as she advised members to start planning for NPRW 2026, slated for 6th to 19th April 6, 2026 at Kaduna State, calling on dedicated members to warm up for leadership positions after her tenure.”The success of Diamond Anniversary Award is for everyone and not for the Chairman and Exco members alone. I want to charge you to keep pushing to break barriers. Let us be united as one happy family.
Also let’s be reminded that the present Executive Council members will soon end their tenure, therefore, let’s warm up to take over the mantle of leadership in the Chapter”, she called. She pointed out that Dr.Ike Neliaku led administration has brought in a lot of reformation to the Institute, which she noted was not easy, saying leadership in NIPR is highly demanding, thus first timers at this year’s NPRW should know how things are done in the Institute and everyone should follow the rhythm.
One of the new Fellows, Mrs. Taiwo Akintomide, a member who joined NIPR in 2005, chronicled her journey from the onset to present day, saying, “as Fellows, we are here to mentor you. So, feel free to contact us for guidance at any time. Let’s imbibe NIPR Code of Ethics. Do well to upgrade yourself academically and professionally, and keep learning so as to remain relevant in the field”, she encouraged.
Also speaking, her counterpart Mr Niyi Oduwole, who joined the Institute in 1992 and became a full member in 2001, appreciated the Chairman and the delegates for honoring them and spoke on the importance of mentorship in the field as it guides one the footsteps to follow in professional pursuits, charging each member to be up to date in the payment of their annual dues. Lending his voice, a veteran in the profession, Mr. Dara Adebimpe, said, “if you are not eady to learn you can’t grow in this profession. No mentor will look for you, you are the one to locate and follow your mentor. Come to meeting regularly, be focused, don’t be distracted by hear syas, and support the executives,”Mr. Olumayowa Osikanmi, while giving vote of thanks to the organizers, said becoming a Fellow in Public Relations practice means a lot to him as he called on others to give it all it takes to have indelible marks in their organisations and other areas of influence.
Well over 1,200 participants across the country out of whom 24 delegates came from Ogun State Chapter, attended the annual NPRW, which showcases, conferences, Annual General Meeting, induction of new members and sometimes, council elections, coupled with relaxations exercises, such as gala night, cultural nights, tourism, presentation of awards, among others.
