While others were feasting and celebrating on the occasion of this year’s Ileyafestival- “EidEl Kabir”, Old Students of St. Peter’s College, Abeokuta set 1968/1972 and set 1971/1975 gathered together to uplift the development and facilities of their Alma-mater.
Both set on the second day of the Eid el Kabirexpended on things worth over Two point five million to upscale the outlook of their Alma Mater.
The Catholic Bishop of Abeokuta, Bishop Peter OlukayodeOdetoyinbo was present to give pep and gave encouragement to the Old Students.
Bishop Odetoyinbo was particularly delighted that the Old Students of the College were rising up to assist in the development of the School.
He said more of such supports were required from such past students as payback to their School as well as prevent the labours of what the Missionary founders did to be in vain.
The Catholic Bishop noted that more than ever before, more hands were needed to complement government efforts in restoring the lost glory of such schools established more than half a century ago by the missionaries.
The President of the 1968-1972 set, Prof. Odedeyi of the OlabisiOnabajo University, Ago-Iwoye whose set refurbished the School’s Principal’s Office and Staff rooms noted that it was one of the ways of giving back to their Alma-Mater for knowledge impacted in their lives early in life.
He enjoined all other Old Students to rise up to the challenges of the development of the School both in terms of provision of Infrastructures and those things that could boost the quality of education provided in the College.
In his own address, the National President of the Old Students Association, Prof BayoAdeogunof the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state whose set constructed a befitting entrance roundabout to the school with the School Logo said he was happy that Old Students were now getting more interested in the development of the School.
The National President used the occasion to make a request on the Abeokuta Catholic Diocese through Bishop Odetoyinbo to approve the release of a disused building under the ownership of the Diocese not far from the College premises,for the Old Students to rehabilitate and make available for use of the Students of the College.
The Catholic Bishop, Most Reverend Peter Odetoyinbo later commissioned the two projects separately to the delight of Old Students in attendance and a representative of the School’s Principal.
