SUICIDE IS A NOT A SOLUTION TO PROBLEMS – OGUN RED CROSS CHARGES YOUTHS

Nigerian youths have been advised not to consider suicide as an option when faced with myriad problems.

The Chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Ogun State Branch, Dr. Jide Bello, gave the advice in his address at a Seminar held at the NUJ Press Centre, Abeokuta to round off activities marking the week-long 2023 World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.

Speaking on the theme of the seminar entitled “Suicide Prevention for Youths – A Mission From The Heart”, Dr. Bello said public enlightenment campaigns should be organised to discourage leaders of tomorrow from terminating their lives prematurely as problems have solutions.
He called on social, political and religious leaders to join the crusade to inspire hope in youths who should be encouraged and emboldened to face life with courage.
He urged all well meaning citizens to join the Red Cross Society and support the organisation in cash and kind to make the society better.
The International Red Cross Week is to celebrate volunteers and partners of the Society sacrificially serving humanity.
A Jumat service was held on Friday, 5th May, 2023 and Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday at the Cathedral Church of St. Peters, Ake, Abeokuta while a blood donation exercise took place on Wednesday 10th May, 2023 at the General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta to mark the Week.
