Comrade Kayode Surajudeen Alakija has won a fresh four-year mandate to pilot the affairs of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory and Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC).
Mr. Alakija was unanimously re-elected at the 3rd Quadrennial Delegates Conference of SSASCGOC held at Kakanfo Inn, Ibadan on Friday.
Speaking shortly after his election, Mr. Alakija thanked members of the Association for the trust reposed in him and his team promising greater achievements in the years ahead.
He listed his achievements in the last four years to include the repositioning of SSASCGOC from a debtor to a financially healthy organisation, purchase of a national headquarters in Abuja christened as “Dr Peace Obiajulu’s House” in honour of the matriarch as well as purchase of two official Lexus Jeeps for President and General Secretary.
Other achievements include improvement of working conditions of federating members like Intels, OMT, NPA, CAC and aggressive membership drive.
Welcoming delegates earlier, the Registrar of Trade Unions, Mr. Rabiu Shuaibu, who described the Conference as his first official assignment commended the Association for fulfilling the constitutional obligation to encourage industrial peace.
He charged the new Executives to always put the interest of the Union above other interests to sustain peace and harmony.
He drew attention to the statutory obligation of rendition of Annual Financial Return
and audited accounts by branches for approval.
At the plenary session, Barrister Kayode Aderemi, the Chairman Nigeria Bar Association, Abeokuta branch speaking as guest speaker on the theme:SSASCGOC’s Partnering role in strengthening government business, enhancing workplace and sustaining the rule of law in Nigeria, called on the federal government to empower SSASCGOC legally, engage them collaboratively, and investors in their capacity to deliver on their mandate.
Speaking further, Barrister Aderemi admonished the Ministry of Labour and Employment to issue binding circular to all Statutory Corporations, government owned companies parastatals, boards and agencies mandating that management must recognise SSASCGOC as the exclusive negotiating body for the senior staff.
The 3rd Quadrennial Delegates Conference ended with a gala night for members to unwind.
